Population quantitative dynamics and phenology of Brown marmorated stink bug (Halyomorpha halys, Hemiptera Pentatomidae) in commercial hazelnut orchard"

Author: Mariami Matcharashvili
Annotation:

The aim of the provided research is investigation of the quantitative dynamics and phenology of Brown marmorated stink bug (Halyomorpha halys) orchard in Ergeta village, Samegrelo region, Georgia as well as to study the influence of the temperature on the population of this pest insect. The research began on April 28 and continued to September 29. Experimental site represents homogenous commercial hazelnut orchard divided into two control blocks and two blocks with grower’s standard pesticide application scheme. Commercially available BMSB monitoring lures and sticky traps were used for BMSB monitoring and data comparison for all sites. All traps were checked on the presence of stink bugs on a weekly basis. Temperature was recorded by meteorological station located in “Chitatskali” village. In the result of provided investigation, it was determined that: 1) the population dynamics and phenology of BMSB are significantly influenced by temperature; 2) the direction of the migration of BMSB is from the outside of the orchard to its interior; 3) finding of the 2nd instar nymphs in the end of September has supported earlier statement on minimum two generations of H. halys in Georgia.
