Author: Giga KochlamazashviliAnnotation:
Here we present the main aspects of scientific-practical and pedagogical co-operation in cartography and Geoinformatics. Cartography as the part of International Geographical Union (IGU), in parallel to IGU organizes scientific practical conferences in every four years. These events are accompanied by arrangement of cartographic exhibitions with cartographic publications such as: atlases, maps, booklets and so on. The International Cartographic Association (ICA) organizes the scientific assembly, in a period of 4 years by a large, representative, international scientific conference. One of these conferences is held by Intercart/InterGIS, named as: "Cartography and Geonformation for Sustainable Development". These conferences are held every year since 1994 in three different countries lasting around 2 weeks each one and are carried on languages of the United Nations (English, French, Russian, Chinese, Arabic and Spanish). As a result of the conference, the collections of reports are presented as materials, which are registered in the international database of “Scopus.” The famous Georgian cartographers Alexander Aslanikashvili (participated in time period of 1980-1990): Nikoloz Beruchashvili (1990-2006); and Jansugh Kekelia (1990-2013) worked in the ICA commissions and the works of these scholars are printed in the ICA conference materials and bulletins. The productive cooperation of Georgian scientists with the International Cartographic Association, International Geographical Union and International Geodesy Association continues nowadays and offers new future perspectives.
